3. Visual Studio MRU Cleanup Tool

Sometimes old news is good news.

If you still need to work with Visual Studio 2005, you may find yourself annoyed by that list of Recent Projects on your Start Page; a list you can't clean up - unless you want to go poking around in the Windows Registry.

The nifty little utility at this link takes care of the problem in a clean, straightforward, easy-to-use way.

5. Which Development Tool would YOU use?

Maybe I'm cynical, but as a developer meeting with a prospective client to gather requirements, I always wait for that one "gotcha" that turns a simple, straightforward project into a potential daymare.

6. Using Paradox Tables with .NET

Although the .NET Framework is well "tuned" for MS SQL Server, it can also be pressed into service with other databases.

A somewhat unusual case is using ASP .NET to access and modify data in Paradox tables.  If you're going to do that, the most important thing to know is which ODBC driver to use - because you will be using an ODBC Driver.

The driver to use was created by Intersolv and bundled with Paradox v9. That driver has a version designation of v3.11

8. Member Event

A custom event added by a programmer to a class. Custom created events need to be processed, usually by an event dispatcher within a framework.

9. Event Handler

In computer programming, an event handler is part of event driven programming where the events are created by the framework based on interpreting inputs. Each event allows you to add code to an application-level event generated by the underlying framework, typically GUI triggers such as a key press, mouse movement, action selection, and an expired timer. In addition, events can represent data changes, new data, etc. Specifically, an event handler is an asynchronous callback subroutine that handles inputs received in a program.

A custom event is a programmer created event. For example, you can contrast an event handler with a member event, an OOP concept where you add an event to a class.

9. OO/UML: Aggregation versus Composition

Our most popular article in the history of our online community! Explains the "is a", "has a", "uses a", and "looks like" relationships (updated May 2007). "Is a" is inheritance, "looks like" is interfaces, "has a" is aggregation, and "uses a" is composition.

10. BDE Broken? Recent Microsoft Betas may be the culprit

We encountered a situation in which programs that use Borland's BDE suddenly stopped working on some of our machines. The really helpful error message was "Operation not applicable!" (The error code is 10756)
