Bar code readers are usually just keyboard wedges. Meaning, they emulate keyboard presses so no extra coding is needed. Let me know if you're doing something special; otherwise, no special coding needed.

Nothing New Since Your Last Visit 4. RE: Paradox Development
Hi Ross, my company Prestwood IT doesn't develop new applications in Paradox anymore, but we do maintain quite a few. Our development for new apps focuses on two platforms: C# to MS SQL using webforms, as well as PHP to mySQL usually within Wordpress. It's great that Paradox 9 and above run well on Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10. I miss the simplicity of Paradox applications. Good times. I maintain a blog on the future of Paradox at the following URL: http://www.prestwoodboards.com/ASPSuite/KB/document_view.asp?qid=100285

To access Paradox tables, all applications must be pointing to the same Net Dir which controls table and row locking. Run the BDE Admin control panel applet to set the Net Dir.

RE: Accessing an FTP with filesyst
If I were doing this for a client, I would create a 32-bit DLL in Delphi and simply call it from Paradox to process what was needed.

RE: Splash Screen Change In Parado
The splash screen is in a Windows resource file. Developers use resource files and then link to them. You can download a resource editor, find the resource, and edit it. I've done it before several times.

Re: Upgrade Paradox BDE?
Just a quick addition to Rick's post. Here at Prestwood IT Solutions, we always stay up to date with the latest versions of the BDE so this shouldn't be a problem at all. In fact, it may make some problems go away.

4. Initial Pre-2-Step Discovery

Sometimes clients want to start a project with a small task or 2. This pre-project work is considered part of discovery and may include feasibility, documenting of an old system, data cleanup, etc. As soon as appropriate, the formal discovery should start with our Step 1 of our 2 step process.

5. 2 of 2, AppName 1.0

Step 2 of our 2 step is used to complete an application by building it. If we perform step 1 of our 2 step, then the requirements task of step 1 is this project ticket.

This project ticket documents requirements in App Artifacts. However, there may be some completed requirements in previous projects including step 1 projects, which is appropriate. This project also documents any tasks that are required to complete the project including PM, testing, and deployment. The combination of tasks and artifacts in this project represent the project plan for building the app.

If the client has authorized work, it is set to In-Progress and work can start as soon as resources are ready which means this step 2 build project can overlap with a step 1 discovery project. If this ticket is not authorized, the printed version of the Project Plan is the Project Proposal for Building of the next version of the application.

Hi Mark, The funny thing, or good news, is that Paradox runs better on Windows 10 64bit than on Windows 7 and Paradox runs better on Win7 than Vista. Backwards compatibility is getting better with each version of Windows after Vista. So, use either Paradox 9, 10, or 11.

Install Paradox 9 on Windows 7 64bit
Paradox 9, 10, 11, etc. install easily on Windows 7! You do have to download WinHelp to get the Paradox help files to work properly.

1. The Future of Paradox Blog

If you have an existing Paradox system you can keep using it but you'll need to skip the Vista operating system and either stick with Windows XP or move to Windows 7. Because better tools exist, you may very well want to put a plan together now for converting to another development tool or at least understand what the future is likely to hold. If you're a power-user or researcher working with data, stick with Paradox.
