G'Day,, , Well Here I am. My speciality is Access I have been developing databases on a semi-commercial basis for about two or three years, although I started in computing prior to IBM PC's., , For work I am in charge of building / selling commercial swimming pool filtration plants., , Other than play with my computer, I have been known to sing a little opera, or according to my wife a lot of opera., , Anyways that's me, just a bloke who's learnt a bit.
Hello folks,My name is Paul Barfoot. After reading what great coding skills many of you have my opal skills seem so very limited and perhaps of limited or no value. I have written some Applications using Paradox 7 then delivered with Paradox 11 for use with Paradox 11 Runtime. I am 67 and have about 5% vision due to RP and that has rightly or wrongly kept me from expanding my skills and being chained to the keyboard even more than now., I have a simple personal accounting program and Last Will App on my web site that Iwould really like someone to look at. A local Accountant said he couldn't get it up and running so he couldn't appraise it. so I'm wondering if I should forget about it.If anyone has the time to check them out that would be a boost. Even if you consider the applications worthless. I need an honest opinion. I have used the accounting program fro years so I know it works just fine.www.pkwapps,caCheers,Paul aka Pkw
Thank you Nicole,
Any advice or encouragement will be most appreciated.
I am of course willing to pay whatever fees are involved
( within reason ) for an evaluation of Pkw Personal Accounting by one of the
many experts. here at Prestwood.
Best Regards,
Paul Barfoot
I found Prestwood several years ago but I never introduced myself. My name is Daniel and I've been coding in Delphi on and off, but mostly on, since 1997. At the time, COBOL and BASIC was what I was coding in a client-server environment, before most people even knew what nTier architecture meant. Heck I didn't know, but was doing it.Someone in another department came up to me, presumably after seeking permission from my manager, and asked if I knew Delphi. I said, knew what? Having never heard of Delphi I said no, but was anxious to do something new, so I was transferred to the other department.I didn't what the future was for Delphi and it wasn't to be a .Net, however, Delphi has found me and paid me well over the past decade point five.Take care and talk to you later.
Hi Daniel,
I've seen some of your posts before, but thanks for the intro. My experience isn't unlike yours. Before Delphi, I was coding mostly in C and C++; also client-server systems.
I attended a show in San Francisco where Borland was handing out pre-release disks of Delphi 1. I installed it and started playing. I wasn't eager to learn a new language, but once I saw the power of Delphi's RAD environment, and OOP without pointers...
I just migrated from 9 to 11 under XP. I have a report that prints a phonograph record album and counts the tracks if I have updated the contents of the album. Under 9 the report shows "0" if no tracks are available. Under 11 it defaults to "1" when no tracks are updated. Can anyone help.

Report has a "defined Field" to count normal the number of records linked from Inventory.
There is no special coding other than what is prompted by Paradox.
I am not technically savvy so please bear with me. What can I send to be more specific
My name is Dick Hill and I have been using Paradox and it's many iterations since prior to 4. I use it to catalog a large jazz & blues record collection. I do the album/cd inventory and then itemize each track by session date, artist etc. To date there are over 100,000 track records (no pun intended)! I just migrated from Paradox 9 to 11. I have a report that lists an album and counts the tracks if I have added them. The report now shows a 1 when no tracks are available. A null count is returning "1"? Any help here. A new service pack?
I have used the prestwood boards a couple of times in the past to find solutions to compatibility issues for the version of paradox I work in and decided it was time to join the board and contribute.
I've been working in Paradox 7.5 since, well 1995..
I Started in paradox 4.5. After 5 years maintaining and developing quality control apps for my employer at the time, Database consulting blossomed into a full time carreer for me. I have been self employed as a freelance developer since 1999. I have managed to stay in paradox 7.5 with brief forrays into 8 and 9. Those forays were because a client bought into the newer versions, not because the 7.5 version couldn't do something they wanted it to. Since 7.5 has been a strong performer all these years, I have not encouraged my clients to move up the ladder yet. I prefer the borland environment, but would be interested in hearing about advantages corel has added since they t...
Mike,
Yes, I am sticking with paradox 7 for the moment. I am having some difficulty with some general issues with later versions of windows. Mostly for reports / printing.
Having printer's shared from a workstation to other users on a network is often a problem, especially with lower end desktop printers. I think that is a printer driver issue, probably that the printer driver is not backward compatible to a win...

Today I added a "Random MB Thread" to the main message board menu. This link displays a random message board thread from "all threads". Sometimes I like to review old threads just to keep my knowledge up. During this review process, I sometimes add to the threads, but it's mainly a study tool for me.
This compliments our group message board "Random MB Thread" link we added a few months ago. Now you can display a random thread from all groups or from the group you're within.
To browse all threads randomly, go to the main message board overview page and select "Random MB Thread":
