Mike and I discussed a little about this today, and this post is just to better explain myself as to what I might think Google would consider duplicate content, for example, the following http://shaggy.prestwood.com/aspsuite/kb/document_view.asp?qid=102191 http://backup.prestwood.com/ASPSuite/KB/document_view.asp?qid=102191&GroupID= /ASPSuite/KB/Document_View.asp?QID=102191 http://store.prestwood.com/aspsuite/kb/document_view.asp?qid=102191 /aspsuite/kb/document_view.asp?qid=102191 are all copies of a thread posted by me, and like most users of a forum, I had a link to my own website as my signature, as which of coarse is permitted on the Prestwood boards, as long as they are in good taste and not considered spammy. Now to me, this would not only be considered as duplicate content, but as link spam as well. And this is just an example of only one of my threads, so you do the math. In the googly eyes of Google, it looks like I am spamming the Prestwood boards with the same posts over and over so I can get tons of back-links to my own website, because only "one" post or thread that I submit now becomes "five" or more with my link. Now, who's fault is this? Well, in this case it is nobody's fault, except for the "many" companies that "many" people are paying for this to happen. Well, it is time for me to make dinner for the kiddos, but I shall return to vent some more...hahaha OK - now back to whom to blame. I'm sure you all have received a email at one or 1000 times from companies offering to get your website on the first page of Google for your search terms, some will go as far as guaranteeing it <[;_--]- this means beware, and getting back-links to help this process. Well, what most of these companies do is outsource to people who have nothing better to do then spend their time on the internet posting links in forums and blogs and directories as fast as they can, even if is irrelevant to the site they are posting to. I'm sure many of you who have a blog or forum spend a lot of time deleting this crap. And to make something clear - anyone can get any website on the first search result page in Google as long has they have the $$$ to pay for it, and I will tell you the secret as long as you don't tell anyone. Ready Google has this thing they call AdWords and what you do is bid for placement of your search terms or keywords in a ad that will be placed all over the internet via Google, and what makes it so easy is Google will tell you the max bid you should make to get the fist page placement. What could be easier? Except maybe build your own search algorithm that can compete. The best thing that I can advise is since you can't beat 'em, why not join 'em (Google) by complying to the simple guidelines that they provide for your site to be Google friendly? Please - I await your opinions and comments on this.
