It should be set to automatic so that it will start up on it's own. |

I get an error message "Invalid field definition 'Field Name ' in defnition of index or relationship"., The table I am trying to link to is really big. It has around 260 columns Could that cause a problem ? , Thanks for your help. | 1 Reply: | Scott | Moved from "Member Introductions"..., , , , The error message indicates that you have a foreign key error, so you will find the problem in the foreign key definition., , , , If you have the metadata handy, check for column or table aliases. Sometimes the syntax of quotes around column aliases is OK for Oracle's interpreter, but when the metadata is exported to a development tool (VB??? Delphi??? Paradox???), the syntax is invalid in t... |

Thread 6 of 10 | | Thread Starter | | | NewNewbie | Databases on different PlatformsHi!, I have a question... I have a DB2 database on the IBM mainframe, and a ORACLE database on a Sun box. Guess what? These 2 different databases have duplicate data in some of the tables. How would you go about elimiating this duplicate data and keeping these 2 datbases in synch? Is there a way that when the DB2 table gets updated, you could immediately fire off an update transaction in ORACLE? Can't you do this with CORBA? I have no idea what I'm talking about... Can anybody offer me some suggestions??, , Thx! , |

Thread 4 of 10 | | Thread Starter | | | Guardian | Best bang for buck Oracle BookLooking for advice on a good Oracle book to cover system administration (as well as setup, design, backup and recovery, exporting, etc) and programming tips (mainly in Java and PL/SQL, although others would be fine as well). I have Oracle Personal Server 8 running with a small test database I created, along with Oracle Forms and Reports 6 with some simple forms and reports accessing it, so I have the tools to play with, I just want some 'direction' with which to improve my skills., , I have some database design experience, as well as Oracle Forms and Reports experience. I also work in Java, so I'm not looking for a beginner's book, Intermediate to Advanced would be best. Any suggestions would be appreciated! |

Thread 2 of 10 | | Thread Starter | | | andreK | Export a Fixed Length AScii file from OracleApart from using an export utility, is there a way to export a file to ascii format, fixed length using sql. I would like to wrap this in a stored procedure., , , Thanks, , Lans | 1 Reply: | Scott | Let's assume that you are talking about exporting the data from the execution of a SQL script, using Oracle's SQL*Plus utility., , Whenever you execute a SQL query in Oracle SQL*Plus, the output is already formatted in fixed length ASCII. If you save your results to a file, you will see that there are fixed-length column boundaries in the output., , The Oracle SQL*Plus Reference has an entire section on custom-formatting the output of a query, u... |
