Paradox Runtime & Distribution Topic

I have a terminal server installation that has been running paradox 11 runtime.  All users on this installation access paradox through the terminal server. After running fine for the initial four months, I recently ran into a curuption problem that looked a lot like the old Oplocks of NT days or Terminal User settings of Win TS server 2003. I could watch two users viewing the same table, the edits of user A would not appear for user B after user A committed the edits and the table would get immediately currupted.  It looked to me that both users were holding the tables in memory and not committing changes to disk until the user left the table.  A single user could function normally in the application without curruption.  I tried a lot of things on that server to try to fix it including oplocks and terminal user reg edits, but I couldn't correct the problem. I've inherited a Paradox 9 application that needs to be cleaned up and stabilized. The biggest single problem is that all users have access to the full version of Paradox so they go in an make copies of tables, litter the directory with queries, etc. Replacing Paradox 9 with the runtime version seems like a great solution but There is a print button in the application that allows the user to print a single record. I have Paradox 9 Developer Edition installed on two machines here in my cube.  On one machine I am running Win 2k (for testing legacy applications) and the other runs Win XP.  Both machines are configured the same, use the same (network) IDAPI.cfg file and are mapped to a network drive (X:).  Both have a shortcut to a departmental database; both shortcuts are identical.  On the legacy machine everything is still working correctly.  On the XP machine, I can use the shortcut to navigate to the database startup form and view data in the form.  If I close the form and invoke the project viewer, however, the viewer shows an empty window for the departmental database folder. If I select another alias from the list the project viewer shows the contents of that database folder, but if I then select the previously-selected folder again I get an error message "Module does not exist".  I also am getting a DLL error when I move the poin...

I don't know how many of you have worked with the Runtime versions of Paradox. If you have, maybe you have noticed subtle differences in behavior.  One I would like to point out is in the reports.  I recomplied a pretty big application from version 7 to a fully patched version 9 and did final testing on Runtime 9. Reports originally designed in version 7 printed perfectly in version 9. However, printing the same reports Runtime9 SP3 would surface a clip-to-page width dialog warning and then proceed to print the report just fine. About 40 reports, and every one of them produced this error dialog which had to be answered.  A real show stopper in my opinion. (Yes, I set clip to page width in the reportprintino...it fixed the extra page when printing issue).  Anyway, I tried decreasing the report width from the standard 8.50 to 8.49 and am happy to report that it fixed the problem. Have been developing with Paradox since the DOS days.  Been a few years since I visited a Pdox forum. Good to see there are still developer /users out there.  Pdox is a great development tool and I know it too well to give it up. Have been distributing an app in P7 for the last ten years. After discovering that P7 won't install on W7 64 I'm ugrading to P9 (runtime of course) which runs fine on W7 64. I know...P7 can be troublesome and I'm way over due for upgrading --  I have reasons for waiting which I won't bore anybody with. Two questions: I have been working the the P9 distribution expert and it seems to be coming along okay.  It is interesting because the PDE is in manys ways, more straight forward than the P7 Installsheild, but in other ways, it is lacking. Specifically, the option of selecting a custom icon for the startup shortcut.  Unlike the Installsheild ve...

First off, I have been including the pdoxruntime9sp3setup.exe file with my database programs as my source for Paradox Runtime.  Is this the best file, or should I really be using something else? I have had a couple of users indicate that this file contains a virus (Trojan).  This was identified through AVG although I'm finding that Trend Micro also identifies a virus or at least remnants of one.  However checks using Symantec, McAfee and Kaspersky do not indicate any threats.  Can someone tell me if there actually is a virus or not?  I believe it is the AxDistEx.exe file that is in questions.  I have seen mention of this issue in one other post, but its not clear to me why some virus programs are picking this up and some are not.

Hi, , Is there some advantage in upgrading an distributable application from Paradox 9 to Paradox 10/11? If yes, can I still buy the versions 10/11, including the runtime?Thanks,

G'day, I have a interesting problem to say the least with Paradox 11 runtime clients. Recently at work we decided that it would be time to move away from Paradox 8 to Paradox 11.  Lots of reasons but mainly to overcome some bugs we experienced in version 8. All our users run windows XP SP3 and use WordPerfect Office X3 standard and yesterday I installed the Paradox 11 runtime clients on all our PC's.  The shipping version of the client is 11.0.0.233. Heres my problem, I want to install service pack 2 for Paradox runtime but the patch wont install because it wants build version 11.0.0.300. So 2 questions, the service pack that was released does it work for the runtime client and secondly is there a patch for the runtime client that will patch me up to build 300 or 302?

I installed the BDE on the network, now the proble is whenever I try to create a distribution package and select the runtime files it also include the BDE. The install programs now overwrites the previous install of the BDE. , 1)Can the runtime files be installed on the network or does it have to be locally distributed?, 2)If Locally distributed, how can I prevent the BDE from being selected?, 3)If I do an uninstall it removes the BDE from the network, unchecking the uninstall feature only prevents the registry entries from being removed, can this be blocked?, 4)Where can I find out which files are included in the runtime files so I can use install shield instead of the the distribution expert and also which ones should be registered.

Has anyone experienced trouble with Navigation bars giving trouble in Runtime9 ? I have a Calendar by Leon Chalnick which works fine on Paradox9 but plays up on PDXRT. I'm hoping that the Word Perfect SP4 will sort the problem out, anyone like to comment on their experience ?, Cheers,, Paul

We have installed runtime on a computer and by error used a network drive for the program. Now we are trying to update the program and at the same time putting it on the local drive. The install program will not let us go to the local drive and defaults to the network drive. I have not been able to un-install the program completely to start over. Paradox really puzzles me, a lot.  I am trying to create a launcher with tabs for my Forms, Reports and Queries.  I used the Launcher Expert but it will not let me re-size the form to the desktop.  The option "Size to desktop" is checked off under preferences but the form will not comply.  When I move the form in Run mode to the place I would like it to be on the screen and then run it, it automatically changes to the original settings where the top of the form is almost at half the page.  When I hit design mode again it stays at the wrong settings.  I don't have this problems with any of my other forms but this is the only one I have used the Launcher Expert to create.  Any ideas?  I could just create it from a blank form but I'm trying to avoid programming all those buttons, I have a lot. Thanks, Teresa

Hello, , I am trying to write some ObjectPAL to create a form at Runtime. , , The purpose of this form is a little complicated so please bare with me while I try to explain it. In our Job Database we are going to link jobs together, these links are based on customers, relevance to each other etc. Therefore it is possible that a job is either linked to one job, many jobs, indirectly to other jobs etc., , My search is going to take a job number and find all the jobs that are directly linked to it, i.e the First Hop, then it is going to find all the jobs that are indirectly linked to it through another job, i.e. the second hop, this will continue for the third hop, and fourth hop until there are no more links., , What I would like to do, as I do not know how many hops there will be, is to create a form on the fly after I do know how many hops there are., , I have played around with the ui.create(FieldTool.... etc but i cannot get it to do what i want. I have a multi-user Paradox 9 application running on a Windows 2000 platform. One of my users gets an error when they log out that says they can not save the following files:, , PDX_EN_RUN_bars.cfg, PDX_EN_RUN_sbar.cfg, , Any ideas?

Is anyone aware of a Runtime distribution utility for Paradox 10 runtime? I have been using the expert for Paradox 9 but several of my clients are going to 10 but are experiencing problems with the delivered software.

Background, I am using windows 2000 and paradox version 7. , I have a successfully programmed a paradox form to communicate with Excel via objectpal and DDE. When my users access the form via their pdox runtime version 7 they receive the general protection error dialog box and asked to abort. Any ideas?

Is there anyway to change the Title and/or Icon of the paradox runtime application?

Has anyone had the problem of Paradox Runtime freezing when a user exits then tries to go back into the program?, Normally the Paradox windows starts to appear then everything stops. If you log off NT then back on Paradox will start correctly., Environment is NT4 SP6a, Paradox 9 Runtime SP3.

Can I control the "ToolBar" parameters in my delivered Runtime package? I would like only the "status bar" to be available when the delivered package is run. I would also like to "maximize" the applications when they are opened from the shortcut that I place on the desktop of my users. I've gone thru the help section but am missing something.
